December 12, 2007  It was a minute before noon when the tones went out for the Lisbon Fire Department with mutual aid from Jewett city and Taftville FAST to respond for a fully involved barn fire at 423 North Burnham Highway.  Due to the location of the barn and the reports given by QV, the tanker task force was requested bringing in Plainfield, Canterbury, Voluntown, and Preston City.  Upon arrival a 60 x 30 foot barn was found well engulfed in fire, and defensive exterior operations began.  A BLITZ-Fire was put into use which made good headway along with multiple additional handlines.  Exposures were not a immediate problem as they were set well away from where the barn was located.  The fire was knocked down and put under control in about 45 minutes.  Crews remained on scene for about 3 hours for overhaul and snuffing out any hot spots.  A thank you and job well done goes out to all responding departments and QV Dispatch.

Thankyou to the Taftville Fire Department & Eastern CT Fire for use of their pictures.

Note: If someone has pictures taken earlier during the fire that they would like to share, please e-mail them to gtoman05@hotmail.com, Thankyou!
