August 11, 2007 During the early afternoon, Lisbon Fire Department was requested mutual aid to the borough of Jewett City for a working structure fire at 86 North Main St., Keith's Appliance.  The original call came in as an outside fire, but as first arriving officers arrived, they found fire climbing up the side of the building.  Departments responding to the fire were: Lisbon, Jewett City, Griswold, Voluntown, Baltic, Taftville, East Great Plains, Yantic, and Plainfield.  American Rehab 1, Canteen 1, CL-P, and State Police were also at the scene.  The fire spread quickly through the second story of the wood frame building causing the roof to collapse into the second floor.  After an aggressive attack from master streams and handlines, the fire was finally put under control.  The weather made the firefighting very difficult as crews had to be rotated regularly due to the heat and humidity.  American Red Cross came to the scene to help the victims from the apartments in the second story of the building.
